Ohlone & Korean Story Sharing Supper

Ssi Ya Gi and mak-’amham present a private Ohlone and Korean meal in the re-designed Cafe Ohlone space on the UC Berkeley Campus. This event has been organized to honor the resilience and wisdom of the elders in our Ohlone and Korean communities, and is an opportunity to learn from the experiences shared between them.

The meal, cooked by Cafe Ohlone and local Korean American chefs, will highlight two ingredients used in both Ohlone and Korean cooking: acorns (dotori) and fernbrake (gosari). Both cultures utilize these plants in their cooking.

Ssi Ya Gi is dedicated to sharing senior immigrant stories about foods, because the process of listening and transmitting our elders’ food stories creates opportunities for intergenerational and cross-cultural discoveries.

Please note that this is a private invite-only event.

Community Story Sharing Party and Panel Discussion

The act of listening, recording, and amplifying our immigrant elders’ stories and memories is a way for us to protect and uplift some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

This two-part event consists of a private supper for seniors (3-5pm) and is followed by a public panel discussion with project partners and an opportunity for guests to take part in a shared cultural memory project (6-7:30pm).
